SED students making things happen!

Congratulations to all of our students in the sensory education department! Following a new round of switch assessments, Mr Wells is delighted to report that 100% of students have made expected or better progress from their last assessment!

Mr Wells said “I am absolutely delighted that the hard work of these very special students! I know they have been working really, really hard on their switch programs and these results show that. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a time when every single student has made such exciting progress. This is down to the hard work and determination of the students and more than a little bit of help from the staff.”

Thank you everyone and well done!

We are delighted to announce that Pete Wells, Creative lead for Ascent Academies, has been asked to be a regular writer for the prestigious PMLD link magazine.

This well respected educational journal has contributions from esteemed academics and lead practitioners of special education across the world. Pete has been asked to contribute one of his innovative, well renowned sensory stories per issue.

Pete said “I am thrilled and honoured to create resources for such an important publication. I am a firm believer are in sharing good practice and exciting resources. I get a real thrill out of knowing that the stories I write for possibly the most overlooked students in education will being used across the world.”

Pete has donated stories to the last two issues, the first story was about flies having a picnic, which is designed to promote healthy eating. The second, for a health and fitness themed issue, was ‘Sheldon and the Hare’ a story of a race between Sheldon the Snail and Hector Hare. The purpose of the latter was to show that everyone can be a winner despite their perceived lack of ability.

Pete said “My next story is called “I’ve lost my grannies Gnashers ” which is a story designed to improve eye pointing and utilise Eyegaze system. Pupils will use their eyes to find an old lady’s missing Teeth in a variety of amusing and disgusting places.”
