Extended Services
We are an Extended School
Portland College is an Extended School offering access to the full core offer, which provides a range of activities and services to support and motivate children, young people, their families and the wider community to achieve their full potential, often through collaborative work with the Local Authority and external partners.
A varied menu of activities, including offering children a safe place to be
Portland College are proud of the additional activities we provide for our students. We have an extensive range of lunch time clubs which are suitable for all students to ensure they are supported by staff doing activities which they enjoy. We offer numerous after school clubs, such as football, judo, swimming, and massage plus many more. We also run our summer holiday scheme which operates for three weeks during the summer break and includes so many fun and interesting activities to keep our students entertained, both on the school premises and visits to places of interest. If we hear about any provision delivered off-site, we will let you know through our newsletter!
Community Access
Portland College opens the premises for use to benefit the wider community. Our community facilities are used to offer access to activities such as swimming lessons, dance classes, jiu jitsu classes and many more. We also support our partners by offering our facilities for meetings, training and access to specialised resources.
Parenting Support
We realise the importance of supporting parents whether this is keeping open communication about each childs progress, offering access to specialist services, or giving information, advice and support in general. We strive to have open communication with parents and feel this can only be of benefit to our students, their family and school. We offer access to Family Nurturing courses, Makaton classes and are willing to support parents with any additional information they would benefit from.
Swift & Easy Referral
We work closely with other services to identify support which is available for our students. We ensure where possible the support can be provided within the school to address the need of each of our students and keep parents fully involve during each process.
Our Extended Services are currently being developed even further to ensure the provision we provide meets the needs of students, their families and the wider community.
If you have any queries about the Extended Services we provide access to, please contact Karen Brunskill, Assistant Head.
