Key Stage 3 & 4

Key Stage 3 and 4

Students in Key Stage 3 (11 – 14), study a core curriculum of English, maths, science and the foundation subjects that are delivered through a topic based rolling programme, enabling a cross curricular learning theme, the incorporation of SMSC and SRE. This programme is based on some aspects of the International Primary Curriculum with progression objectives that support students’ learning.

Students in Key stage 4 are also given the opportunity to choose from option choices and we hope to introduce more vocational options for 2017/18. We aim to keep the curriculum as broad as possible so students are not restricted in Key Stage 5 opportunities.   Pathway 3 will access accredited courses as appropriate.

Careers Education Information Advice and Guidance forms part of our foundation curriculum and specialist days. The curriculum aims to provide students with an overview of work based and employability skills. This will be further extended in 2017/18 through the introduction of Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS) Specialist days might include visits to local employers and places of work as well as visits to school from employees in different sectors. Year 11 students are provided with a weeks sheltered work experience working across the Trust. Where possible these are linked to EHC plan aspirations.
